Become a Dentist?

Dr. Finger believed that dentistry would be a good way to combine his lifelong interest in science with a genuine passion for helping others. Unlike many areas of medicine, most dental issues are solvable, and he would have the ability to make patients more comfortable and confident through his work. Today, with well over 50 years of experience in the field so far, he still feels certain he made the right choice for his career.

Where Did You Study Dentistry?

Dr. Finger is originally from South Africa and studied dentistry at the University of Witwatersrand. He then pursued his Master’s in Prosthodontics from Ohio State University, followed by additional specialized training in Maxillofacial Prosthetics at Roswell Park Institute in Buffalo, NY, where he focused on oral-facial defect such as cleft palate and post oral cancer reconstructions.

For 28 years, Dr. Finger served as a professor at LSU Medical Center and was Director of the Graduate Program in Prosthodontics. He has also lectured both nationally and internationally, authored numerous journal articles, contributed to textbooks, and even helped to pioneer a digital denture technique with AvaDent! He is a current member of the American Academy of Maxillofacial Prosthetics and the Seattle Study Club.
