man at the dentist's office Visiting a new dentist for the first time can be a little nerve-wracking — but when you visit us here at MoreSMILES, we know you’ll feel relaxed and at-ease right off the bat in our warm, welcoming environment. To help take away some of the mystery surrounding this first dental visit, we have detailed the experience below. Questions leading up to the visit? Don’t hesitate to get in touch with us!

Reception

The first thing that you will encounter when you walk into any new dental practice is reception, where friendly faces like Emily’s, our concierge, will welcome you to the office. The front desk will get you registered, and it will help a lot if you take the time to download, print off, and fill out the new patient forms before you come in. Doing this prep work will help to ensure the registration process goes smoothly so we can have you reclining in the examination chair without any unnecessary time spent waiting!

Meet the Hygienists and Assistants

After you have been through reception, we will introduce you to our friendly team of hygienists. These are the folks who are responsible for cleaning your teeth, taking x-rays, and doing other important jobs at the dental practice. They (as well as the dentist) are supported by the dental assistants, who have a hand in just about everything that goes on at our office.

Health History

Before we can get started cleaning and examining your teeth, we also want to get to know more about your oral health history. Your hygienist will talk to you about the information you filled out in the new patient forms — like any medications you are taking, big surgeries you have recently had, and other important details that paint the full picture of your oral health needs.

Cleaning & Exam

After the completion of these preliminary steps, the cleaning and examination will begin! Your hygienist will take x-rays and then get to work cleaning around your teeth and gums, removing all plaque and tartar buildup while also check for evidence of gum disease. Once your teeth are squeaky clean, your dentist will come in to chat with you, answer any questions you may have, and perform a tooth-by-tooth examination looking for cavities, worn dental work, and other oral health hazards.

See You Soon!

The first visit ends with an evaluation of your oral health, where we discuss any special needs that may need attending to and scheduling your next appointment. If you have a cavity, gum disease, or any other issue, we’ll book a follow-up visit to get started right away — and if not, we’ll plan to see you again in six months!

Now that you know about the new patient experience at MoreSMILES, we invite you to book your visit today! We look forward to being your family’s partner in oral health for years to come.
